In a recent discussion with a manufacturing executive, we explored their organization's journey in adopting Generative AI (Gen AI). They described 2023 as a year of frenzied experimentation, with departments operating in silos, rapidly testing Gen AI tools without a cohesive strategy. Despite early successes, they struggled to demonstrate sustained, tangible value. This experience reflects a broader Gen AI trend: While leaders across industries are captivated by Gen AI’s potential to unlock inaccessible data and enhance user-friendly interfaces, they are now confronting complexities that extend beyond technology. The executive identified a key set of barriers: foundational gaps in their operating model, cultural misalignment, and the absence of structured ways of working limited progress. They emphasized that success with Gen AI requires more than ambition and the best technology - it demands alignment, engagement, and strategic focus. This underscores a critical insight: Organizations transitioning to scaled Gen AI adoption face uncertainties in investment returns. Without a disciplined approach, they risk inconsistent

implementation and diminished value. A passive ‘waitand-see’ strategy is unlikely to succeed, as Gen AI demands reimagined business processes to deliver measurable outcomes.
